Explore Chamber Music at Chateau de Berbiguieres in France
3-10 September 2017
Krysia Osostowicz and Oscar Perks: violins
Yuko Inoue: viola
Richard Jenkinson cello
Join us for a week of intense music-making, study and performance in the spectacular Chateau de Berbiguieres in the Dordogne. We can accommodate 14 students – string players and one or two pianists – who are welcome either to come as pre-formed chamber groups, or as individuals wanting to work on chamber music with like-minded people.
In addition to daily group coaching with members of the Dante Quartet, each student will have two individual instrumental lessons. There will be concerts, both formal and informal, and evening chamber-music reading sessions.
The Chateau dates mostly from the 17th Century, with a medieval wing. There is a beautiful music room with grand piano, majestically proportioned bedrooms, a large cosy kitchen and an enchanting courtyard. Below the courtyard you can wander down to swim in a lovely small pool, set on a secluded terrace overlooking forested hills. Delicious meals of typical local cuisine are cooked by Gladys. Our hosts are Lord Jonathan Sumption and his wife Teresa, who are enthusiastic and generous supporters of young musicians.
We meet at Berbiguieres on 3rd September afternoon/evening to start with dinner and some chamber music. We will then spend the next six days working, playing and making the most of the wonderful surroundings, with a final concert on Saturday 9th September, departing the following day.
We welcome young musicians of college age or above. To apply for a place, please contact Krysia Osostowicz at firstname.lastname@example.org. As the numbers are small, each person is important, so that the chamber music groups and repertoire can be planned to work for everyone. Because of our hosts’ generosity, the fee can be kept down to £350 which includes all tuition, food and accommodation (but not travel). You will need to send a non-refundable deposit of £150 by 15th July and pay the full amount by 15th August. There will also be some bursaries available: please enquire, if you want to come but can’t afford the full fee.
We look forward to seeing you at Berbiguieres!
Best wishes from Krysia and the Dante Quartet
